how to wander

Alright, Week 7! We packed our bags and dove headfirst into an epic adventure with my mom, stepdad, Shawn, and Aiden – and our first stop? Hobart, Tasmania, followed by Melbourne!

Our Hobart escapade kicked off with a bang at MONA, aka The Museum of Old and New Art, (creative, huh?) Now, I'm not usually one for museums, but this place was like stepping into a trippy art wonderland. It's an art museum tucked away within a winery with interactive exhibits and art installations. We even stumbled upon an exhibit by James Turrell called Unseen Seen, which involved stepping into a flashing lights sphere and ending up in a pitch-black room. Let's just say, it was an experience I won't be forgetting anytime soon – especially since I may or may not have passed out asleep in there. Oops! Despite that, it was a blast, with games, live music, and delicious grub. And if you're curious about the theme… Well, let's just say David Walsh, the mastermind behind it all, has a thing for sex and death. Yup, you heard that right!

Then came Monday, the day of chaos – but in the best way possible! My mom had booked us a boat cruise seafood tour, promising a feast of fresh seafood straight from the Tasman Sea. Sounds dreamy, right? Well, here's the kicker – turns out, it wasn't just us on the boat. Nope, we were joined by a lively bunch of tourists, complete with bucket hats, selfie sticks, and fanny packs galore. Not exactly our scene, but hey, we rolled with it.

And let me tell you, it was one heck of a ride! We mingled with our fellow seafarers, sampled an absurd amount of seafood, and laughed until our sides hurt. Oh, and did I mention we had to drop poor Georgia off at an uninhabited beach because she ate about 82 oysters and 5 rum and cokes all by herself? Yeah, it was a wild day.

Tuesday we bid farewell to Hobart and hello to Melbourne. We kicked things off with a VR experience at The Skydeck – cheesy, yes, but undeniably fun. Then it was off to ARU for some insanely good Modern Southeast Asian cuisine, and let me tell you, after 5 days of non-stop feasting, I was ready to be rolled outta there!

Wednesday and Thursday were all about exploring Melbourne, from slurping up ramen in Chinatown to discovering hidden street art gems and crafting inside jokes 24/7.

But wait, there's more! We tackled the Great Ocean Road on Friday, an epic eight-hour drive through jaw-dropping scenery and iconic landmarks like the Twelve Apostles. We even saw a koala in the wild, on the side of the road! And to top it all off? My first helicopter ride back to the city, because why not?

Saturday was bridge-climbing day – yup, we suited up and conquered the Sydney Harbor Bridge like champs. It was touristy, sweaty, and oh-so-hot, but totally worth it!

And finally, Sunday rolled around, and what better way to say goodbye to my folks than with a boat day in the harbor? We gathered all our buddies, cracked open some cold ones, and soaked up the sun – talk about the perfect send-off! So, there you have it – an adventure-packed whirlwind with plenty of laughs, seafood, and unforgettable memories. Thanks for the visit, 'rents – until next time!
